COMMITTEE

The committee are the glue that holds the club together and it is student led. The goals and roles are chosen by the students, when leaving University. Led by our club captain, their roles vary and are crucial to the success of the club.

Our Club Community Officer is a relatively new role established in May 2018 at the Annual General Meeting, with the aim to give back to the community and increase the general female population in Rugby Union, whether this maybe in clubs or schools. Our Community Officer and club members volunteer weekly to put back into our community and develop women's and girls rugby throughout the County.

ALICE MILLAR

"I'm Alice and I'm the Club Captain for DUWRFC this year.

I am currently in my 3rd year of the Natural Sciences MSc course, within this I study a joint honours in Physics and Biology.

I'm so excited to be working as the Club Captain this season. My role involves promoting the well-being, development and effective operations of our club. I oversee the work of the Committee to ensure that the club's best interests and key values are always kept in mind. One of my favourite things about the role is acting as a representative of our club, liasing with the Team Durham to ensure all the club's needs are met and helping applicants/individuals external to Durham learn about DUWRFC.

DUWRFC is a huge part of the Durham experience to all those who join the club, from doing your best to commit to all the training sessions to trying out rugby for the first time at University and going on to get involved in college rugby. I'm proud of the inclusivity we have built for the club, welcoming all levels of players from all walks of life and I look forward to continue pushing that goal and creating a rugby club thats impossible to stop coming back to.

JULIAN GREATHOLDER

"Hello, my name is Julian. I’m the Vice Club Captain (Logistics).

My role involves coordinating the pitches, referees and equipment used by the club every week. It’s also my responsibility to ensure the appropriate registration and compliance of players, and the club itself, with the RFU.

I’ve had a phenomenal time throwing myself into playing for DUWRFC for the last 2 years. I’ve seen the club transform and prosper, and I’m excited for further rugby glory for our teams next year!"

"Hello, my name is Em and I am currently a second-year studying Economics.

My role primarily involves managing the club's expenditure and income, ensuring we continue to have the budget to fund the rugby we love. I am super excited to take on this role this year, not only because I hope it creates a platform for my future career in finance, but because it's a chance to give back to DUWRFC.

Within my first year at Durham, some of my best memories were made through rugby. I not only gained access to incredible coaches, facilities and playing opportunities, but I made some of my best friends. I hope that I can help give future players the same experiences I've had, and I can't wait to see what we achieve together this season."

"Hello my name is Bobby a Business management student and I am the Media Exec this Management alongside Katie.

Our role is to make sure that all of DUWRFCs Socials are fun, inclusive and look nice on all platforms. This is a really exciting role as there’s so much scope to be creative so I’m excited to see what we can do as a team. This role is very well suited to me as I love taking pictures, making fun tiktok’s and posting memories.

DUWRFC is such a special club and I’m so excited to give back to it after having such an amazing experience in first year! Keep an eye out for our post!"

"Hey, my name is Katie and I am this years media secretary along with Bobby.

This means we are the admin for all social media accounts, and are in change of publicity for the club. We will organise headshots and other media opportunities so all players and teams are featured across the platforms. We publish weekly teamsheets and match scores aswell as any other match day and training content captured throughout.

Engagement from all participants is especially important for posting and helping to boost our social reach as this helps us gain sponsorships and allows us to reach future Durham applicants."

"Hiya, I’m Amelia, one of three Welfare Secs this year. I’m studying Theology and Religion and am currently in my second year at Durham.

My role involves making sure everyone in the club feels confident, secure and safe within the community and to be an active listener when it comes to complaints and queries. Whether this entails a quick chat before or after training, or an in-depth discussion at a Welfare drop in, I want to make sure that everyone in the club knows I have their best interests at heart. I applied for this role because I want to continue with the aspects of the club that last years Welfare worked on, specifically rugby families and enhancing the roles that 2nd and 3rd years move into and their part in furthering the club culture of DUWRFC.

The atmosphere in DUWRFC is one of friendship and commitment, and I’m excited to highlight that moving into the next year, as it was highlighted for me last year."

"Hi my name is Millie, I’m a Welfare Officer. My role involves making sure everyone feels included and welcomed into playing rugby.

I’m studying Natural Sciences, with modules in Biology and Computer Science. I wanted to take on the Welfare Officer role because creating a supportive and welcoming environment is such an important part of a team.

DUWRFC means a lot to me, and I want to help make sure everyone feels like they have a place within the club."

I, along with your other two Welfare Officers, Amelia and Millie, am here to ensure that you are always having an enjoyable time at rugby and that your physical and mental health is always a number one priority. The three of us are available at any time for chats if you need someone to confide in, need to relay any issues you are having at rugby, or even if you just want to talk to someone.

"Returning for my third and final year of PPE at Durham, I'm excited to once again be involved in the DUWRFC community. Having played for DUWRFC in both my first and second year, I've seen first-hand the inclusivity and positive culture this club champions.

I came into the club with exclusively 7s experience, so immersing myself in the world of 15s has been a really rewarding experience, most recently reflected in my selection for the Durham County women's team. This year, I've decided to join the sponsorship committee because I want to help build the relationships that keep this club running long after I've left, in the hopes of preserving its positive culture for years to come.

This is probably the last proper season I get to play a team sport before the real world takes over, so I'm making sure I enjoy every bit of it with my friends!"
